| Reliant
Stadium (2002), the home of the Houston Texans, is
the only NFL retractable-roof stadium. It hosted
Super Bowl XXXVIII on February 1, 2004. Its 990 ft.
length is 200 ft. longer than the average NFL stadium
because it requires a place to “park” the
retractable-roof when the stadium is open. |

|
|
| Minute
Maid Park (2000), home of the Houston Astros, was
formerly called Enron Field. Its 900 ft. length is
about 200 ft. longer than the average MLB ballpark
because it requires a place to “park” the
retractable-roof when the ballpark is open. |

 |
| ATwinDomes
complex made by combining Reliant Stadium
and Minute Maid Park would only have a total length
of 1550 ft. (340 ft. shorter than the combined
lengths of the stadiums) with a “sports mall” between
the stadiums. Each stadium serving as the “parking” area
for the retractable-roof when the other stadium
needs to be open is the reason for the savings in
total length. Such a reduction in total length
should result in at least a $100 million construction
cost savings. The shared retractable-roof should
result in an additional $50 million cost savings. |

| The
Joyce Athletic & Convocation Center (twin arenas)
on the Notre Dame campus hosts basketball and hockey
games, concerts & numerous other events. |

|
|
| Not
having a need like ours for stadiums that can be
covered or open-air, a designer's vision in the late
1960's of side-by-side Royals & Chiefs stadiums
in Kansas City, that would have shared a common "rolling-roof," never
came to pass. |

Over
250,000 spectators watched chariot races, full-scale
navel battles, and other major events in Rome's Circus
Maximus completed in 46 B.C. The dimensions
of the arena were 2165' long by 690' wide. That's
400' to 600' longer than the complex we are proposing.
You've been thinking a TwinDomes stadium complex
might be "thinking too big," haven't you? |
